What Is Memory Care and Who Benefits From It?

Memory care is a specialized form of senior living designed for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or other memory-related conditions. Unlike assisted living, memory care provides a secure environment, structured daily routines, and personalized care plans that support both physical safety and emotional well-being.

Families often turn to memory care when a loved one begins to show signs such as increased confusion, wandering, difficulty managing daily activities, or when caregiving at home becomes overwhelming.

Therapies and a Supportive Environment

At Great Lakes Senior Living – Waterford, our memory care program is built around comfort and dignity. Our environment is thoughtfully designed to reduce stress and encourage engagement, with features like:

  • Secure entries and monitored common areas to ensure resident safety
  • Specialized staff training in dementia and Alzheimer’s care
  • Enrichment therapies such as music, art, and sensory activities
  • Small, intimate community spaces that encourage connection and familiarity

Every detail of our memory care setting—from the floor plan to the daily activities—is centered on helping residents feel safe, supported, and valued.
